    Research firm eMarketer has published some new predictions on the 'digital audio' landscape in the US, which includes music-streaming services. The company reckons there'll be 201.5 million US digital audio listeners this year, which is just over three quarters of all internet users there. It also has some predictions for specific services.

    "This year, 58.4 million people in the US will use Spotify, making up 20.8% of internet users," claims eMarketer. There are some official figures we can compare this prediction to, albeit not directly. In its Q3 financial results, Spotify published guidance suggesting it will have 199-206 million monthly active users by the end of 2018, while in the year so far, 31% of its listeners have been in North America. That points to somewhere between 61.7 million and 63.9 million users there this year – a figure that includes Canada as well as the US – so eMarketer's prediction seems sensible. eMarketer is predicting that Spotify's US listeners will grow to 65.6 million in 2019, 70.9 million in 2020, 74 million in 2021 and 75.3 million in 2022 – the year when the company thinks Spotify will overtake Pandora for the first time in the US.
