Individual country figures for recorded music revenues in 2019 are coming thick and fast at the moment: the Netherlands remains part of the double-digit growth party. According to figures published by industry body NVPI Audio (and reported on by the NL Times) Dutch recorded music revenues grew by 13.2% last year to €206.8m (around $227.6m). Streaming revenues grew by 23% and accounted for 78% of the total, easily making up for a near-16% decline in CD and DVD sales, and a 21% drop in download sales.
For more on the trends underpinning all this, you can read our last country profile of the Netherlands, which was published in October 2019. It noted a 5.5% increase for the market in 2018, so 2019 appears to have been a big leap – despite reports last year that (in research firm Multiscope’s words) “the market for music services now seems saturated and the growth of new users is levelling off”. While we don’t have user figures, it seems those gloomy predictions have been turned on their head.
