Coachella, Stagecoach, and Lollapalooza have joined the growing list of festivals canceled in 2020 as the coronavirus crisis continues
While no formal announcement has been made from the promoters of Coachella, Stagecoach, an internal memo obtained by Billboard’s Dave Brooks on Tuesday showed that promoters Goldenvoice and AEG expect no major live music events to happen in the US in 2020.
Then on Thursday, Riverside, CA County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser announced what most industry observers knew was inevitable:
“The Coachella Valley Music and Artist Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival are hereby canceled for the calendar year 2020 … as a result of the worldwide epidemic of COVID-19 disease.”
    2021 Return Uncertain
The future of Coachella and Stagecoach remain uncertain even for 2021.
Under California Governor Newsom’s Stage 4 guidelines events of this size require treatments or a vaccine to go forward. There is no scientific consensus when either will be widely available.
    Lollapalooza 2020
On Tuesday, Lollapalooza was also canceled for 2020. Chicago also canceled all major summer events through Labor Day, including the Chicago Air and Water Show and the Taste of Chicago.
“Bringing that many people from all over the country downtown in Grant Park every single day, we might as well light ourselves on fire,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
    Lolla Livestream
“Lollapalooza will honor its annual summer tradition by bringing Chicago, and the world, together around a common bond of community, civic engagement and, of course, live music in a weekend-long livestream event July 30-August 2,” according to the announcement.
