"Drake's new album Scorpion is currently being streamed over 10 million times per hour," Spotify tweeted Friday. By days end, the album's 25 tracks had been streamed more than 132 million times - a debut day record. Drake's streams on Apple Music were even stronger.
Apple Music reported that Scorpion had been streamed 170 million times in 24 hours. Weekend streams on each service exceeded 100 million per day.
But the aggressive marketing accompanying the album is turning more than a few music fans off. A Drake takeover of Spotify saw the album and singer dominating artwork and slots in every vaguely appropriate official Spotify playlist from RapCaviar and Today's Top Hits to Morning Commute and Songs To Sing In The Car. Even Ambient Chill somehow celebrated Drake.
