      201910/0102:49

    ◎《Old Town Road》

While it was undoubtedly the summer of "Old Town Road" in America, the rest of the world was on a much different beat when it came to their streaming choices—and much of it was from Latinx artists.
Spotify revealed their most-streamed songs of the summer around the world with a huge surge of Latin musicians taking over the Top 20 list. While only two Spanish-language songs made Spotify's year-end summer list last year (with one of those songs representing a mix of Spanish and English in Cardi B's "I Like It"), this year sees almost half of the streaming service's annual 20-song list taken over by Latin artists.
While not a traditional Latin-pop cut, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's sultry "Señorita" duet sets the tone for the list as the most-streamed song around the world this summer. But not too far down the list, Tainy and Bad Bunny's "Callaita" was the fifth-most streamed further showing how the Puerto Rican producer's hot streak is continuing strong. Panama singer Sech and his breakout hit "Orto Trago" featuring Darell landed at the No. 7 spot. (Look out for "Otra Trago" to keep rising this fall thanks to a new remix that enlisted Nicky Jam, Ozuna and Anuel AA.)
Puerto Rico's Lunay landed on the list at No. 12 with his "Soltera" remix that features Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny, followed not far behind by Daddy Yankee's "Con Calma" with Snow that landed at No. 15. These two tracks put Bad Bunny and Daddy Yankee along Shawn Mendes, Young Thug and Lil Nas X as the only artists to score in the Top 20 with more than one song on this year-end list.
DJ Snake's Latin-dance-hip-hop hybrid "Loco Contigo" featuring J Balvin and Tyga also made the list as well at No. 19.
Though Apple Music remains the more popular streaming platform in America (and it would be interesting to have their data to analyze), Spotify as the world's preferred streaming platform shows how a range of Latin music and artists are gaining a true foothold in the global market. While songs like Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" or Cardi B's "I Like It" may have represented singular hot songs of the summer in their respective years, the increased amount of Spanish-language songs and Latin artists in 2019 shows a growing audience and interest in the scene are growing far beyond one trendy, standout song.
