SiriusXM is the latest company trying to tempt students into paid subscriptions. In its case, the satellite-radio company is offering a new $4-a-month streaming package for students, which will offer a bundle of its music and talk stations to stream on smartphones, other in-home devices, and the SiriusXM web player.
The pitch is this: “Today’s college students grew up listening to SiriusXM in their parent’s car, and now we have a package built just for them,” as VP of ‘Outside the Car’ Matt Epstein put it. The plan is launching as students return to college/etc after their summer break in the US, with pretty much every music-streaming service also offering some kind of deal or promotional package too.
In separate news, SiriusXM announced yesterday that Billie Eilish will be performing a concert for its listeners on 18 September – a joint event with its Pandora subsidiary. The Los Angeles gig will have an audience of competition winners from SiriusXM and Pandora’s listeners, and will be broadcast live on SiriusXM.
